target snacks for diabetes

Navigating diabetes, a new diagnosis of diabetes or gestational diabetes can feel overwhelming, but having the right snacks for diabetes on hand can make a world of difference when it comes to managing your blood sugars. Here are some good diabetes snacks that are also gestational diabetes pregnancy-friendly from my latest Target trip. These pregnancy snacks and diabetes snacks are not only great for managing diabetes but also nutritious and delicious for pregnancy and beyond.

Snacks Ideas

Bitchin’ Sauce

This almond-based sauce is a fun way to incorporate more vegetables and healthy fats into your meals. It’s perfect for dipping, spreading, or adding to your favorite dishes and diabetes snacks. Bitchin’ Sauce is a favorite by many people as a pregnancy snack and a good snack for diabetes due to its low carb intake, high healthy fats, and variety of flavors. Try it as a mayo substitute on sandwiches, a dip for vegetables, or a spread on high-fiber crackers.

Kimchi and Sauerkraut

Fermented foods like kimchi and sauerkraut are excellent sources of fiber, probiotics, and prebiotics. These nutrients are crucial for mental health, digestion, and immune system support during pregnancy. I love kimchi and saurkraut from Wildbrine.

Shredded Chicken

For those nights when you’re too tired to cook, having pre-cooked shredded chicken on hand can make meal prep or snacking a breeze. It’s a versatile protein source that can be added to salads, wraps, or spread on a charcuterie board.

Vive Organic Ginger Boost Shot

Ginger is known for its anti-nausea and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a great addition to your pregnancy diet. Add the Vive Organic Ginger Boost Shot to sparkling water like Topo Chico for a refreshing ginger beverage to help soothe morning sickness and reduce inflammation. To make it a snack, pair your drink with 1/4 cup nuts to make it more satisfying.

Fairlife Milk or Horizon Organic Grassfed Milk

Both of these milk options provide calcium, vitamin D, and protein, essential nutrients for pregnancy. People with diabetes may better tolerate Fairlife milk due to its lower carb and higher protein content from ultrafiltration. I recommend using this milk with your smoothies or protein powders for a better snack for gestational diabetes and diabetes.

Fairlife Core Power Protein Drink

When you’re on the go, experiencing meat aversions, or finding it hard to eat, Fairlife Core Power Protein Drink is an excellent source of protein. It’s convenient and helps ensure you’re meeting your daily protein needs. Many of my clients enjoy a protein drink before bed to help lower their fasting blood sugar in the mornings. Protein before bed has been known to help reduce liver sugar secretion overnight (1).

Good Culture Lactose-Free Cottage Cheese

This high-protein snack is perfect for pairing with a variety of foods. It’s great for making cottage cheese pancakes or protein-packed bagels. Plus, it’s easy on the stomach for those with lactose sensitivity.

 Pasture-Raised Eggs

Eggs are an excellent source of choline, protein, and vitamin D, which are vital for fetal brain development and overall health. They’re also incredibly versatile, making them a staple in any healthy eating plan. Hard boil eggs for an easy high protein snack anytime.

Lifeway Kefir

Kefir is rich in calcium, protein, and probiotics, supporting bone health and digestion. It’s a great addition to smoothies or enjoyed on its own as a tangy, nutritious drink.

Antioxidant Frozen Berry Blend

Packed with vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, this berry blend is perfect for adding to smoothies. Pair it with healthy fats like avocado or chia seeds, protein like plain Greek yogurt, and leafy greens for a balanced, nutrient-dense smoothie. Portioning fruit into 1 cup or less in smoothies and pair with healthy fats or lean proteins is the best way to promote better blood sugars.

Pearls Olives

Olives are an easy, high-healthy-fat snack. They’re great for curbing hunger and providing essential nutrients like vitamin E and iron.

Dave’s Killer Bread Thin Sliced

This high-fiber bread is ideal for making quick and nutritious meals. Pair it with eggs, nut butter, avocado, or chicken salad for a filling, balanced snack or meal.

Mission Protein Tortillas

These tortillas are a convenient source of protein and fiber. They’re perfect for making peanut butter wraps, quesadillas, or burritos, helping you to create balanced snacks that keep you full and satisfied.

Gimme Roasted Seaweed

Seaweed is a crunchy, salty snack that’s also a great source of iodine, which is essential for thyroid function and fetal development during pregnancy,

Fiber One Cereal

Choosing a cereal with at least 8g of fiber and less than 30g of carbs is important for managing diabetes. Fiber One is a great replacement for sugary cereals and pairs well with plain Greek yogurt and cottage cheese. You can also use a protein drink like Fairlife for the milk! For a snack I recommend take 1/4-1/2 cup of cereal and mix with nuts or use it as topping for plain Greek yogut.

Jojo’s Chocolate Covered Pretzels

These pretzels offer a salty, crunchy treat that can also be used as a topping for cottage cheese, adding a bit of indulgence to your healthy snacks.

Simple Mills Almond Flour Crackers

High in fiber, these crackers can help with nausea and are great paired with a protein like cheese. They’re a delicious and nutritious option for blood sugar-friendly snacking.

 Grillo’s Pickles or Oh Snapp

Pickles are a salty, crunchy snack that can help ease nausea. Grillo’s Pickles and Oh Snapp are made with natural ingredients and provide the satisfying salty crunch that many people crave.

With these diabetes snacks from Target, you can create delicious, nutrient-dense meals and snacks that support both your health and keep your blood sugars balanced.
